Vincent Gallo. Nothing else. My plan to collect all things I find about him just because that's what I do, collecting.
something in Italian. translate? http://www.35mm.it/recensioni/promises-written-in-water-una-promessa-mancata.html
i posted another really nice review in italian. did you get it? I wonder where are all of the english critics?
I'll be seeing it at TIFF next Wednesday...I'll keep you posted :)
This may or may not be him at the Venice airport, with his face totally covered. The clothes don't seem very "him" to me, but maybe that's also part of the disguise.http://www.blitzquotidiano.it/cinema/uomo-mascherato-cinema-mostra-venezia-talebano-vincent-gallo-535127/From what I understand, he is deliberately doing zero press or interviews or statements or promotion or anything for Promises. Which is understandable, since the press is usually not kind to him, and the film seems very deep and complex, and he would probably be defending it from the get go to people who are not receptive. But maybe his disguise is tied to this impulse of avoiding the press completely now?It also has no financing/distributor or timeline for a release.

Updates are on Gallo's page
He looks good when he runs....I wonder how he feels about the reception of the film, especially because he claimed he wasn't going to 'share' it with anyone. I live in LA, I wonder if I'll ever get to see it. I'm curious about the other 2010 (short) films on his site as well.
does anyone know if the venice film awards ceremony is going to be live anywhere on the internet?? and Quaids, what page are you talking about?
i found award show live. http://www.eurovisionculture.tv/ nothing is playing yet though.
VG just won the prize for best actor at venice.Vincent Gallo wins best actor prize for Essential Killing♥♥♥♥
There are links to pages about his new films on his official website

VG on editing "Promises" "I would use his (Pete Red Sky´s) crew, his cameras and his actors to pretend to be making a movie, but then I would bring in my camera and sound men, and I would be filming something else...I´d call cut here and action there, then I´d do these improvs and film people while they were on set while they were waiting for the lighting or film rehersal, or film some of the sets they had made." "There´s 100 hours of film, so the first criteria is to reduce that to 10 hours of what the most beautiful photography was - it could be landscapes, it could be the same take of the same scene, it didn´t matter - whatever I thought was the best 10% of footage. All of it looked pretty good, so when I reduced it to 10% we´re talking about phenomenal footage." "So now I have 10 hours of film, and the next criteria or filter is that everything has to look good aestethically. So the first two phases are aestethic only, I have no idea after that. There´s sound, but I don´t want to hear it. Now the 10 hours go down to 5 hours. The next level is I turn up the sound - by the way, this movie has 10 minutes of no sound - and the I choose anything I think is 100% honest. I don´t mean documentary, I mean no performance - no acting. So now, I cut that down to 2,5 hours of film." "3 months go by and I´m looking at these 2,5 hours of footage and I´m not thinking about it as a film whatsoever. So I look at it, and suddenly I realise what´s happening - I see a conflict, a metaphor, a story - not all of it is on the screen but I know what it is. I now know 100% what the film is about, at least to me, I see what the universe is reflecting here out of these 2,5 hours of footage. There´s this lesson and insight about life. And from that, I cut a 77 minute film."Note: Peter Red Sky was the rookie director of the original shooting, before VG said fuck it and start making his own film.
Interesting to read the toronto the not so good article....I saw it at TIFF wednesday night. I like Vincent a lot. He could have been on screen for the whole time and said nothing and I would have been happy, just to look at him. I would say a lot of people there felt the same. HOWEVER anyone who went to the film without having read what the film was about or who don't know anything about Vincent Gallo may have found it challenging...I saw a couple people leave. The people next to me had no idea what was going on and kept saying aloud "is this a student film?, how did this get into the festival?" Most of the audience stayed till the credits were done in hopes that Mr. Gallo would make an appearence. The balcony of the theatre was closed and there were whispers that the man himself was up there. Vincent did not appear, and I never did find out if he was there...Overall I enjoyed the film, and if you like Gallo you will too!
and another one:http://torontoist.com/2010/09/promises_written_in_waterem.php
lots of speculations, all the real info is on official sites here:www.promiseswritteninwater.comand there are other film projects no one seems to discuss in reviews. i wonder did they show? www.vincentgallofilms.com
I really wish he would do interviews, what do you think he would say if a bunch of us e-mailed him and begged him to do some press??I'm really tempted to.
C'mon plenty of update material here!
did anybody go to the show last night?
Tour dates are out for November.
where are they posted??
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqurqsOE2lwThe Yoko/ Ga Ga thing where Vincent Gallo apparently is on stage, though I don't know which one...
Did Vincent tell the blog owner never to update anymore? Is that why there are no new posts. I mean, c'mon there's been so much news. And if comments are the only way to get news, but they are moderated, it's kind of not that effective.
Time is short so I have to be a bit choosy about the updates at the moment. Sorry for that, will get better soon - and of course also once big news come in.
Comments are moderated from now on - that means, it might take a bit until they appear on the site. Please bare with that - there has been just to much spam recently.
